io-consultants refurbishes high-bay warehouse for B. Braun in Berlin
Berlin - 27.1.2016
After only three months of construction, B. Braun Melsungen AG and io-consultants have completed the refurbishment of B. Braun’s high-bay warehouse in Berlin. io-consultants was in charge of the architectural planning and of supervising the realisation of the high-bay warehouse in the modernisation project of B.Braun’s entire pharmaceutical production.
“We put a key focus on completing the refurbishment without disrupting daily warehouse operations,” reports Jürgen Kohl, Senior Business Unit Manager at io consultants. One of the remaining challenges will be the greening of the facades.
A steel wire trellis, that will serve as a plant climbing aid, has already been mounted onto the north eastern and north-western facades of the warehouse.
In the blueprint planning phase, io-consultants investigated a variety of facade types for sustainability and the optimisation of costs and functionality, and carried out a thermal simulation to determine the best insulation thickness for the facade, its lining, and the roof. After subsequent consideration of energy saving and cost effectiveness factors, io-consultants then recommended and installed thermal insulation that meets all the applicable fire protection standards and complies with the German Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV). For functional and economic reasons, one of the facades was fitted with sheet-metal panelling. Trapezoidal sheets were used on the roof structure.
