Logistics and IT concept
Fashion giant HUGO BOSS, market leader in the premium and luxury clothing sector, has constructed a new distribution center at its headquarters in Filderstadt-Bonlanden, a small town near Stuttgart in the southwestern part of Germany.
From now on, this is where HUGO BOSS’ flat-packed garments will be order-picked, packed and shipped to the customer. This extraordinary new complex spans an impressive 35,000 sqm, with a shuttle warehouse featuring 400,000 storage places as its centerpiece. A sorter provides an interface between the warehouse and order picking to ensure optimal sequencing of the order picking process. A subsequent value-added service area serves the various customer requirements and distribution channels. When operating at full capacity, up to 35 million articles can be processed and shipped per year. HUGO BOSS has invested €100m in this project; it is the fashion company’s most substantial single investment to date.
Together with the HUGO BOSS project team, io-consultants has designed a customized, highly automated logistics and IT concept. io-consultants and HUGO BOSS together developed an overall concept based on comparisons of various system modules, application analyses and economic feasibility studies. The resulting model meets the defined needs and enables the company to react flexibly to changes while ensuring economically efficient processes.
Consistent use of the new project processes and the io-consultants project portal across all projects stages ensured the efficient coordination of documents, schedules, tasks, etc. The pilot phase began on time and within the budget.
HUGO BOSS and io-consultants worked in close cooperation on solutions for the demanding logistics challenges. All the project targets – quick availability following stock receipt, shorter throughput times and improved service levels – were implemented with cutting-edge ideas. io-consultants formed an interdisciplinary team especially for the purpose to ensure that HUGO BOSS would receive the best possible level of professional support.
